INTEWA AQUALOOP Tap for emergency relief during India’s flood of the century

In the middle of 2018, more than 350 people lost their lives in devastating floods caused by an extremely heavy monsoon in the state of Kerala in southern India. More than 1.2 million people were evacuated from their homes and had to be accommodated in emergency shelters. Not only did the hygienic conditions in the crisis area quickly become a massive problem, but above all the availability of drinking water for the population.

Here the INTEWA water treatment system, AQUALOOP Tap, could be brought to the Kerala disaster area for emergency relief. There the AQUALOOP Tap was installed in several flood relief centres in order to supply the population with drinking water.

AQUALOOP Tap works under the toughest conditions

INTEWA has developed the AQUALOOP Tap, a mobile, low-maintenance and powerless water treatment system, so it can be used without problem everywhere for the treatment of surface water, rainwater and river water for production of clear, disinfected water up to drinking quality. The treatment principle is based on ultrafiltration membrane technology, through which substances in the water down to microorganisms, such as bacteria and viruses, are withheld.

AQUALOOP Tap does not require any electrical energy, the entire system takes up very little space and is easy to transport. Installation is uncomplicated and can be carried out quickly, as can commissioning. The technology used is completely chemical-free and can be cleaned quickly and easily as required. Since AQUALOOP Tap is a robust process without precision mechanical parts that functions very efficiently and self-sufficiently independent of existing infrastructure, the system is ideally suited for use in crisis areas- such as here for emergency aid in the flood area of Kerala.

We are extremely pleased that our technology has been able to provide such valuable help here and we hope that AQUALOOP Tap can also help in other emergency areas.

The possibility to save drinking water has enhanced strongly the last years.
